Creating a drill

Drills are question sets on a single topic that help you learn more efficiently and better remember what you've learned. Drills can be created manually or you can upload them. Companies and educational institutions can also generate drills automatically via the Drillster API.

When creating a drill in the editor you can use different question types and question variants. This prevents a participant from seeing the same question over and over again about the same knowledge element. Doing this ensures an adaptive way of learning and increases the motivation to get a drill at a 100% level for the participant. Do you want to know how to make a great drill? Then click here. Do you want to know how to make a useful question? Then click here.

You can create a new drill in two different ways, via:

My content
Click on the '+' symbol and choose ‘create new drill…’ Drillster now shows a number of fields that need to be filled in:
  1. Drill name: Name of the drill. This shows the exact label of the drill, such as Difficult words, chapter 5.
  2. Subject: What the drill is about. This indicates to which field the drill belongs, like French.
  3. Description: A challenging description for the participant ensures more involvement. This allows the participant to see what he can expect and challenges them to practice their knowledge on this subject.
  4. Tags: Keywords that will make the drill easier to find in the library of the participant and in the Drill store.
Click on ‘Create’. The structure of the drill is now created and you can start entering the questions.

Besides adding media, you can also change the formatting of the text. Would you like to know more about this? Please click here. Changes are automatically saved, but are not immediately visible to participants.

Release
The changes become visible to participants when clicking the ‘Release” button on the top of the page. Attention! Before you release a drill, it is not visible to participants. Even if you make changes to a drill that is already available to participants, you must first click on ‘Release’ before the changes are actually implemented in the version that participants see.

Now the drill can be published in the drillstore, forwarded to users, added to groups and courses, and used for tests. Attention! You can only publish drills in the drillstore if your account allows it. You can find more information about the different accounts here.

Co-authors
It is possible to work and change drills with multiple people. To do this, co-authors must be assigned.
  1. Click on ‘Co-author’ at the top of the page.
  2. Fill in a name or email address and click on ‘Add’.
Co-authorship can be revoked when, for example, someone leaves the team, or is no longer involved in the project. Again, make sure you release the drill before sharing it with the co-authors, to make sure everyone is working in the latest version.
Appearance
Before using your drill, think about adding an icon and a cover. This will give the look and feel that belongs to the subject or theme of the subject, besides that it can give a drill the look and feel of your organization. Click here for the dimensions of these parts.
