Answer validation

An answer validation can be set if you use open questions. This allows you to provide specific elements of an answer on which the participant will be judged whether it is right or wrong.

Answer validation are set under the settings of the answer. Open the drop dowm menu by clicking on the arrow next to standard and select one of the options available.

Below the different answer validations are explained.

Standard
This means that Drillster compares the typed text to the text as entered. In addition, extra spaces in the text are not included in the assessment. This setting is case-sensitive. Text between square brackets will be skipped in the rating.
Strict
This means that Drillster compares the typed text with the text as entered, also checking that the punctuation marks, upper and lower case letters and spaces exactly match what the author of the drill has entered.
Head letter insensitive
This means that Drillster does not take uppercase or lowercase letters into account when assessing whether the question is right or wrong.
Single text
This means that Drillster will only review the entered text. Numbers and symbols entered will not be taken into account when Drillster evaluates them.
Numeric
This means that only numbers can be entered when answering the question. Only this numeric information is also taken into account by Drillster when assessing whether the question is right or wrong.
Numeric with margin

This means that only numbers can be entered when answering the question. Only this numeric information is also taken into account by Drillster when assessing whether the question is right or wrong. The numerical margin means that an answer may have a deviation, higher or lower, of a certain percentage of the exact answer.

Only keywords

This means that Drillster only looks at whether the user has included in their answer the keywords that the author of the drill marked when creating the drill. The text entered by the user outside the keywords will not be included by Drillster in the assessment of the question. The author needs to place the keywords separately between [square] [brackets] when defining the answer to the open-ended question.

German
This means that the text being typed contains German language. If a user uses a device that does not allow German punctuation, Drillster will also accept the alternative spelling of the German punctuation marks. Thus, 'ö' can be written as 'oe', 'ü' as 'ue' and 'ß' as 'ss', etc..
French
This means that the text you type will contain French. If a user is using a device that does not support French punctuation, Drillster will also support the alternative spelling of French punctuation. In this way, the word 'cœur' can also be written as 'coeur'.
Ignore accents
In this case, the arbiter means that the wrong use of accents does not count when giving the correct answer.
Ignore accents and capitals
In this case, the arbiter means that the wrong use of accents or capital letters does not count when giving the correct answer.
Rōmaji
This means that the text being typed contains romanized Japanese language. When assessing the response, Drillster takes into account the rules for romanized Japanese text.
Music

In this case, this means that the drill contains sharp and flat characters (♯ and ♭). In the case of open questions these characters may also be typed as '#' and 'b'.

At least 95% correct
This means that the given answer must be 95% correct for the answer to be calculated correctly.
Ignore endpoint

This means that Drillster will calculate the answer correctly if no period is used at the end of the sentence.

Always correct
This means that Drillster will calculate each answer correctly. This allows you to create a reflection question.
