Drills are question sets about a single subject designed so that you learn more efficiently and to better remember what you have learned. Drills can be created manually or with the help of AI thanks to the new Drillster Question Crafter. Additionally, you can also create drills based on one of the supported formats, such as a CSV file. Finally, companies and educational institutions can also automatically generate drills via the Drillster API.
When creating a drill in the Drillster content editor, you use different question types and question variants (also known as equivalents). This prevents a participant from seeing the same question about one learning element over and over again. This ensures an adaptive way of learning and increases the participant's motivation to get the proficiency level of a drill to 100%.
- Want to know how to make a good drill? Then click here.
- Want to know how to make a good question? Then click here.
You can start creating a new drill in two different ways, although both options lead to the Create content page.
You are now on the Create content page where, besides drills, you also have other options for creating content (depending on the settings in your account). You can also get here by clicking on ‘+ Create new’ under My content in the menu below the Drillster logo. Click on the ‘Drill - Create yourself’ tile here. Next, you have the option to fill in the fields below:
- Name: Name of the drill. This reflects the precise description of the drill, such as Difficult words, chapter 5.
- Subject: What the drill is about. This indicates which learning topic or field the drill belongs to, such as French.
- Description: A challenging description for the participant ensures more engagement. This allows the participant to see what to expect and challenges them to practice their knowledge on this subject.
- Tags: Keywords that make the drill easier to find later in the participant's Library.
- Language: Choose which language will be used for the drill and reading questions aloud.
After filling in all fields, you can start adding questions. Click here for more explanation on using and creating different question types.
Additional explanation about specific elements in a drill is given below. Click on the parts to read more information about the individual elements.
A distractor is an incorrect answer to a specific question. To create distractors, enter the answer and click on the green checkmark next to the answer. This changes the green checkmark into a red cross, and the answer is seen as incorrect.
Do you want to add an image, video, or other media to a question? Then click on one of the options that appears when you hover your mouse over the plus icon in the text field. For more information about the ideal size of images and videos, click here.
Besides adding media, you can also change the text formatting. Want to know more about that? Then click here. Changes are saved automatically, but are not immediately visible to all participants.
If you click on 'Release' at the top right of the page, the changes will become visible to all participants.
PLEASE NOTE!
Before you release a drill, it is not visible to participants. Even if you make changes to a drill that is already being taken by participants, you must first click on 'Release' before the changes are actually implemented in the version that participants see.
Now the drill can be published in the Library, forwarded to users, added to groups and courses, and used for tests.
It is possible to collaborate with multiple people on one drill, or to modify drills. For this, co-authors must be added:
- Click on 'Co-author' at the top of the page.
- Enter a name or email address and click on 'Add'.
Co-authorship can be revoked when, for example, someone leaves the team or is no longer involved in the project. Also make sure to release the drill before sharing it with the co-authors, so you are sure everyone is working in the latest version.
Before you start using your drill, it is good to think about adding an icon and a cover image. Click here for the optimal dimensions of these components.
This allows you to provide the look that matches the subject or theme of the material. Additionally, it can give a drill the same look as your organization.
